Showing Up for Our Elders | Baahn Hao Pop-Up Event

Last month, our team members Tadao and Kenneth had the privilege of attending the very first Baahn Hao Health & Wellness Pop-Up Event, a beautiful day dedicated to celebrating Southeast Asian elders and building community through culture, care, and connection. 💚

From health screenings to cognitive games, shared meals to meaningful conversations, the event brought together elders from across the Hmong, Lao, lu Mien, Khmu, and Taidum communities. Providers from OHSU and Providence offered insights on health and nutrition, and there was no shortage of joy, laughter, and comfort food that felt like home.

As Tadao shared:
"It really hits home, caring for my mom, I know how hard it can be for elders to stay connected and how draining it is when families don’t know what resources are out there. Events like this remind us how powerful the little things can be when they’re rooted in language, culture, and community.”

We’re grateful to the organizers of Baahn Hao for creating such an intentional and welcoming space. This is what community care looks like. 🙌

✨ What it's like to interpret in emotional, high-pressure moments
✨ How AI tools help him prepare for complex medical topics
✨ The reward of giving patients a voice in their care
✨ His advice for anyone considering becoming an interpreter
